Wholesome and pure, just as nature intended, Manuka Honey is produced by bees in the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.
As well as being absolutely delicious, this Active Manuka Honey is rich in antioxidants and has been independently tested and certified to contain a total antibacterial activity level of MGOTM400+ or 20+ AMF). Methylglyoxal measurement is a recent development, based on the discovery in 2006 that the naturally-occurring compound Methyglyoxal is the dominant anti-bacterial constituent in Manuka honey from New Zealand. The number shows the tested concentration of Methyglyoxal mg/kg, ie MGO400+ has a concentration of more that 400mg of Methylglyoxal per kg of honey. (More than 100 mg/kg is the minimum necessary to kill all major bacteria types).
Active Manuka Honey has been proven to be very effective for:
- Enhancing general health and energy: Active Manuka Honey, with its high level of antioxidants, helps to stimulate the immune system to aid the body in dealing with infections. Antioxidants have become popular for their possible role in slowing the aging process and preventing diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Research has shown that antioxidants help protect against the harmful effects of free radicals which are thought to cause cell damage.
- Enhancing digestive health (in particular it has been found to inhibit growth of the bacteria helicobacter pylori - believed to cause most stomach ulcers, dyspepsia and peptic ulcers).
- Providing relief for a sore throat: Active Manuka Honey is effective against the bacteria streptococcus pyogenes which causes sore throats. The honey has an anti-inflammatory action as well as antibacterial.
- Helping to heal wounds: “Many medical professionals are choosing to use active manuka honey and are getting very good results with the treatment of wounds which have not been responding to standard treatment (a trial of Active Manuka Honey on unresponsive skin ulcers was successfully carried out at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand: the results have been published in the New Zealand Medical Journal)”. – Dr Peter Molan, University of Waikato.

About Manuka Honey
Manuka Honey is honey that is harvested from bees that collect pollen from the New Zealand Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium). It is known to have strong antibacterial properties and a distinctive flavour.
Most honeys are antibacterial in some respect. This antibacterial ability is mostly derived from Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2), which comes from an enzyme, added by the bee. In the honey industry this is called "Peroxide Activity". Peroxide activity is delicate and unstable and can easily be destroyed by heat, light and water. However, in Manuka honey there is another, non peroxide, antiseptic agent that is much more robust and can remain active against certain bacteria after being exposed to heat, light and water. This unique, non-peroxide antiseptic agent can be tested for and measured in various ways including UMF® (Unique Manuka Factor), or MGOTM (Methylglyoxal).
Methylglyoxal measurement is a recent development, based on the discovery in 2006 that the naturally-occurring compound Methyglyoxal is the dominant anti-bacterial constituent in Manuka honey from New Zealand. The test for Methyglyoxal concentration uses highly-accurate and automated HPLC laboratory analysis. The number shows the tested concentration of Methyglyoxal mg/kg, ie MGO400+ has a concentration of more that 400mg of Methylglyoxal per kg of honey. (More than 100 mg/kg is the minimum necessary to kill all major bacteria types).
