About Rice Pearls
Rice pearls are grown in a river bed. A piece of oyster shell is inserted inside another oyster in the mantle tissue. This oyster shell creates a blister that eventually forms into a pearl. To get the rice pearl shape, the farmer chooses freshwater pearls specifically, because the river oyster is known to make pearls in the shape of a rice grain. Freshwater oysters, in general, are known for making elongated pearls that are not as round as saltwater varieties.
