Quaky Cat

Uplifting story of a lost cat in Canterbury earthquake. 50% proceeds going to Christchurch charities.

Before the birds roused him with twitters and cheeping,
Curled up on the end of his friend Emma’s bed,
Tiger woke with a start… and a feeling of dread.

Written in response to the Canterbury earthquake of September 2010, Quaky Cat is an evocative, uplifting story that will touch the hearts of all who read it. Although it precedes the more catastrophic February 2011 quake, this story is still relevant in bringing comfort to those children who experienced the earthquakes, and some understanding to the children who didn’t.

• 50% of all proceeds, including author and illustrator royalties, are donated to Christchurch charities.
• Produced using all Christchurch businesses.
• 15,000 copies of the book were gifted by Scholastic to year 1 and 2 children in the Christchurch region at the end of 2010
• So far, $50,000 has been raised for the author’s and illustrator’s chosen charities, the Christchurch Women’s Refuge and Te Tai Tamariki (Children’s Literature Charitable Trust).
• Supported by the Scholastic international community, funds from worldwide sales of Quaky Cat are going to the Christchurch Mayoral Earthquake Appeal administered by the New Zealand Red Cross. (The author and illustrator royalties will continue to be donated to their chosen Christchurch charities.)
