The ultimate in bathroom luxury! Hand loomed, GOTS certified organic cotton towels
Super thick, soft and luxurious. Squares of looped cotton are hand woven through a flat weave base, making these towels exceptionally durable. They are expected to last for a minimum of 20 years!
Reward your senses with sustainable luxury. Woven on old-style looms with shuttles, these boutique towels are made by the last two families of weavers in Turkey who still know how to do this looping technique. Ottoman weavers in the 17th century invented the 'looping' technique (cotton woven in loops) on wooden looms, revolutionising our idea of what a towel is.
Hand weaving is a labour intensive process which results in a very high quality textile that lasts three to six times longer than a manufactured one. Towels that have been hand woven are softer and stronger than the factory made equivalent because the cotton has been handled at slower speeds.

Why organic cotton?
Conventionally grown cotton is one of the most damaging crops grown in the world today, whereas organic farming promotes clean air, water and soil. Organic cotton does not threaten wildlife or human health. Organic cotton is luxuriously soft, absorbent and very strong. It gets better with age – becoming softer with every wash. It is grown and processed without the use of harmful chemicals, and comes with the international GOTS certification. The comprehensive Global Organic Textile Standard requires certified organically grown fibre and then oversees the production, processing, manufacturing, packaging and labelling.
Ottoloom started with the discovery of the stylish, practical and luxurious pestamel (a flat woven Turkish towel). After discovering the vast majority of Turkish towels are now made in factories, to the demise of traditional weaving, Ottoloom began a mission to source Turkish pestamel made the old fashioned way on wooden shuttle looms.
After a long search in Turkey, finally the most beautiful textiles imaginable were discovered. All made by hand on wooden looms, in family homes using 100% GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic Turkish cotton. Not only do these beautiful textiles far out-last factory made equivalents, due to slow weaving speeds and yarn quality, every piece sold contributes to the livelihood of traditional Turkish weavers. Every piece can also be traced back to one maker. All are ethically sourced and produced using fair trade principles.
Caring for your Towels
To ensure maximum absorbency and longevity you need to 'break in' your towel. You do this by soaking it in cold water for 24 hours before use. This breaks in the cotton and speeds up the absorbency process. Even after soaking , you will find your towel reaches maximum absorbency after 3-4 washes.
For everyday care after that, cold machine wash up to 40 degrees C. Dry on cool to medium heat. Do not over-dry. Do NOT use fabric softener.
