ELS stands for ‘extra long staple’ and denotes cotton fibre of extraordinary fibre length. The longer the fibre, the smoother and stronger the thread, and therefore better quality, more durable, fabric. ELS and LS (Long Staple) cotton only accounts for about 3% of all cotton grown. This is because it needs very specific conditions, more intensive management and has a lower yield. ELS cotton is thus a very high end, quality fabric.
These beautiful 500 thread count sheets have a genuine thread count of 500 per square inch, or 775 per 10 square centimetres. This means that the thread is counted from each whole thread along the warp and weft of the fabric. Many lesser quality, and sometimes higher, thread counts are made up counting the ‘invisible’ threads that are twisted into the warp and weft threads – in other words, counting parts of the thread as a whole and inflating the count.
Machine wash on gentle, warm (under 40 degrees) or cool, cycle. Line dry.
